Background. Taraxacumofficinale F. H. Wigg (TO) represents an important source of phytosterols, triterpenes, phenolic compounds with different functions, antioxidative too. The high reactivity of thiol groups involves these compounds as first antioxidants consumed in case of oxidative stress. Objective of the study. To assay the action of TO ethanolic extracts on erythrocytes’ thiol groups content. Material and Methods. The influence of TO dried roots extracts was made on ethanol of different concentration (10%, 20%, 25%, 40%, 50% and 80%). The ratio of biomass-to-solvent was 10:1. All experiments were made in triplicate, using method purposed by Ryzhikova et al. (2011), in our modification (2012). Results. The statistical assays: mean and standard deviation (M±SD), Mann-Whitney U test (control vs experimental groups) and Spearman (rs) correlation (ethanol concentration vs thiols). The p-values equal or less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant*. The amount (μM/g.Hb) of native-SH in extracts of 10% – 3,21±0,11*, 20% – 3,58±0,08*, 25% – 2,88±0,04*, 40% – 2,91±0,06, 50% – 3,18±0,07* and in 80% – 3,08±0,03. The total-SH content in ethanolic extracts of 10% was 3,36±0,13*, 20% – 3,72±0,11*, 25% – 3,19±0,12*, 40% – 3,01±0,01*, 50% – 3,38±0,17*, 80% – 3,24±0,07*. The rs correlation in case of native-SH was reported as -0,48* and -0,55* in case of total-SH. Conclusion. TO exerts a strong influence on erythrocytes thiol-disulphide homeostasis, action which depends of extractant concentration. |
