Background. Primary cardiac tumors, are extremly rare tumors that occur in in approximately 1 in 3000 individuals. Myxofibrosarcoma comprises the spectrum of malignant tumors with variably mixoid stroma, pleomorfism and the majority of these tumors arrise in limbs ( lower extremity), and very rare in heart. Objective of the study. Examination of the clinical case that describes a 44- year-old woman with a myxofibrosarcoma involving the right atrium and right ventrical. Material and Methods. Anamnesis, clinical and paraclinical data were taken from the medical databases. Histological macro- and microscopical examination. The literature about similar cases has been studied. Results. A 44-year-old woman presented with dyspnea on exertion, paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea, and orthopnea over a several month period . Transthoracic a echocardiographic studies were performed shortly after hospital admission and shown a 9,0 x10,0 cm lobulated mass within the right atrial cavity and right ventrical. There were no other echocardiographic abnormalities and the paciant was referred for surgical resection of the tumor. Tumor histology showed multinodular growth with incomplete fibrous septae and a myxoid stroma, spindle and stellate tumor cells with ill-defined and slightly eosinophilic cytoplasm. Atypical enlarged hyperchromatic nuclei with frequent mitotic activity. Conclusion. Myxofibrosarcoma is a tumor of mesenchymal origin that occurs most commonly in the extremities. Primary myxofibrosarcoma rarely arises in the heart. This clinical case will be interesting to present for other doctors and students. |
