Modified active carbons are used to remove of hydrogen sulphide, ammonia and nitrite ions from water solutions. Obtained results demonstrate that active carbon oxidized with H2O2 following impregnation with Co2+ possesses higher adsorption capacity for NH4 + compared with unimpregnated samples. It was established that active carbon obtained from nut shells has better oxidation properties compared with active carbons obtained from plum stones. The optimal conditions for adsorption and oxidation of sulphide and hydro-sulphide ions were established. Active carbons impregnated with FeIII and CuII ions possess higher oxidation capacity demonstrating that these catalysts more effectively catalyze the oxidation of sulphide ions to SIV and SVI species. |
