Rezumat

In this paper we determine the focal mechanisms of earthquakes on territory of Republic of Moldova using data from the Bulletins of International Seismological Center (ISC) and Moldova Seismic Network (MSN). Hypocenter relocation was carried out for the events which occurred in Moldova and for some events with initial location (ISC) close to territorial boarder of Republic of Moldova, from 1975 to 2005 that were reported by ISC and 4 stations from MSN. All of events are shallow earthquakes and with magnitude less than 4. For this set of earthquakes, we used both P and S arrival time data, because of small number of stations. Our relocation hypocenters result is resumed at 6 earthquakes inside of Moldova territory, 2 at North, 4 at South, and 4 more earthquakes closed to borders from Ukraine and Romania. For determination of focal mechanism of earthquakes in Moldova, we used the relocated hypocenters, obtained after Modified Join Hypocenter Determination (MJHD) [1], and Composite P-first motion methods. For last one we used the composite P – first motion method, joined the data from several earthquakes which have the same or almost same hypocenter location [2]. Figure 1. Solution distribution for focal mechanism and stress field on Republic of Moldova territory. We obtained 3 solutions for focal mechanism and discussed the stress field near to Western boundary of Moldova. We suppose our results can be explained by the presence of plate boundaries near to Dobrogea region[3,4], actually situated in Romania.
