Rezumat

In ancient Athens, women’s behaviour was regulated by strict rules: women had to be silent and live secluded. However, some prominent women went their own way, challenging social rules and perceptions. The study examines the women’s traditional role in family and society and compares it with the life of some exceptional female aristocrats, whose creative behaviour can be taken as an example of successfully cultivating independence of thought.
