Rezumat

Social psychology is “the science of the conflict between the individual and society” [I] (p.7) and, also ”the science that studies the phenomena of ideology (cognition and social representations) and of communication”[I] (p. 8). Social psychology as a branch of psychology which studies psychic phenomena in connection with the relations and interactions between individuals, with their behaviours in the social field, with influences of such behaviours over the individuals and their relationships, has great importance in the creation and dissemination of the political discourse. Human communication is an unmediated, strategy to socially influence the political behaviour of the individuals through its impact over attitudes and beliefs. For discussion purposes I have selected mass psychology, social memory and social representations for perspesrives over the political discourse, considering that the discourse focuses on the social and is determined by it, that ”any society, be it secular or atheist, is a god-making machine. If it does not have any gods, i.e. strong passions and efficient symbols, a society is capable neither to activate, nor to lead its members in order for them to achieve the goals it proclaims ”[I] (p.2). Politics is the rational manner of exploiting the irrational nature of the masses. An individual can be convinced, masses are influenced through suggestion. Through its connexions with social psychology, collective memory and social representations, contemporary political discourse can suggest new approaches. Subject to ongoing change through political marketing strategies, over-mediated in a ”tyranny” of the media, the political discourse is restructuring its techniques of persuasion and of manipulation.
