Ideea stabilirii unor repere ale patrimoniului urbanistic la scara Republicii Moldova se cristalizează pe fundalul intensificării unor procese de dezvoltare urbană cu efecte greu de estimat asupra obiectivelor de patrimoniu (oraşe istorice, centre istorice, ansambluri arhitectural-istorice, monumente de arhitectură), cât şi în contextul degradării latente a acestora. Relevarea particularităţilor istorico-geografice ale oraşelor cu statut istoric urmăreşte constituirea unei imagini mai cuprinzătoare asupra contextului, a modului de formare şi a problemelor specifice ale patrimoniului urbanistic din spaţiul de referinţă. Deşi, în prezent, dispunem de informaţii vaste şi diverse despre modul în care au evoluat aceste localităţi, obiectivele studiului sunt realizate în baza unei abordări analitico-sintetice. Sub aspect istoric, este importantă listarea principalelor perioade de dezvoltare şi reprezentarea evenimentelor determinante pentru procesul de formare a planurilor, a ţesutului urban şi a nucleelor acestor oraşe. Reperarea geografică este înţeleasă din perspectiva întregului ansamblu de relaţii şi a rolului asumat de aceste aşezări pe teritoriul considerat, cât şi prin capacitatea de a genera semnificaţii şi de a materializa valorile tradiţionale ale culturii locale. În acest sens, cartarea reperelor de patrimoniu urbanistic are menirea de a mări gradul de conştientizare a valorilor culturale naţionale.

The idea of establishing landmarks of the urban heritage at the scale of the Republic of Moldova is based on the background of intensifying some of urban development processes with effects that are difficult to estimate on the objectives of heritage (historic towns, historic centers, architecture ensembles, architecture monuments) and also in the context of their latent degradation. The purpose of revealing of the historical and geographical particularities of cities with historic status is the providing a more comprehensive picture of the context, way of formation and specific problems of the urban heritage in the reference space. Even though, at present, we do dispose of extensive and diverse information on how these settlements have evolved, the objectives of the study are realized on the basis of an analytic-synthetic approach. Beyond the historic aspect, the listing of the main periods of development and representation of events contribute to the formation of plans, urban tissue and core of these cities. The establishing of geographic sight is understood from the perspective of the entire ensemble of relationships and of the role assumed by these settlements in the considered area, and also the ability to generate significations and materialize the traditional values of the local culture. In this sense, the mapping of the landmarks of the urban heritage is meant to increase the degree of awareness of the national cultural values.

Идея обозначения ориентиров градостроительного наследия в масштабах Республики Молдова появилась на фоне возрастающей интенсивности городского развития, а также в контексте постепенного разрушения городского наследия (исторических городов, исторических городских центров, архитектурно-исторических ансамблей, архитектурных памятников). Выявление историческо-географических особенностей городов с историческим статусом дополнит представление о контексте, способах формирования и специфике проблем городского наследия на исследуемой территории. Несмотря на то, что сегодня мы располагаем достаточно обширными сведениями о том, как эти поселения развивались, цели исследования достигнуты на основе анализа и синтеза исторических данных. С исторической точки зрения важно отметить основные периоды развития и представить события, которые способствовали формированию планов, ткани и центров этих городов. Географическая привязка воспринята с точки зрения целостности отношений и роли, присущих этим поселениям на исследуемой территории, а также их способности придавать смысл и материализовать ценности местной традиционной культуры. Целью картографирования градостроительного наследия является повышение уровня осознания национальных культурных ценностей.
