The day before the Soviet Union collapse, the Kremlin leadership applied different
maintaining measures in its sphere of influence which was in those republics that could
become independent. The Republic of Moldova also was among these republics and
especially the territory between Prut and Dniester (Bessarabia) that could reunite
with Romania. All these measures were possible just through the famous KGB.
On September 2, 1990 it was proclaimed the dniester moldavian republic with the
capital in Tiraspol. That republic had to protect and promote the Russian interests,
to maintain the Republic of Moldova linked with Moscow and to assure the Russian
military and political presence at the NATO and UE borders. The security device had
an important role in those actions.
