Rezumat

The author makes a reconstruction based on ethnology and lingvistics of the functions of the house of young men, also called hardughia, and less often called hurdughia, that is a name of a traditional area of their meetings at Christmas and New Year. In the article are analysed the linguistic and ethnographic information about this house. This information includes the description of the custom of carolling at Christmas by orders of young men, that were made up during the Second World War. The information was supplemented with field researches in order to observe the distribution and the meanings of the word hurdughie (hardughie). The author concludes that the house is a reminiscence of the practices of initiation of young men from archaic and traditional societies, because of historical and geographical factors better preserved in Moldova, than in other regions of the Romanian space
