Background. The success of liver transplantation has increased steadily over the last two decades, due to advances in perioperative technique and of improved immunosuppressive therapy. However, complications are common in the early and long-term period and contribute to significant morbidity and mortality. Objective of the study. Evaluation of the long – and short – term complications of liver transplantation. Material and Methods. The study selected 53 transplant patients in the period 20132020. The short – term complication evolved in the first 6 months after the intervention, which included: technical and medical complication and graft complications. Complications occurred after 6 months, showed long-term outcome: chronic rejection, diabetes, bone complications and tumors. Results. Shortterm outcome of liver transplantation occurred in 85% of recipients. Technical complications were determined in 19% of patients. Medical complications were detected in 81% cases, most representing neurological (62%) and respiratory complications (58.5%). After liver transplantation, liver graft was found to affect 4%, all resulting in death. Long - term outcome of liver transplantation occurred in 28% of recipients, the most common complication being chronic rejection found in 8% of patients. Conclusion. Assessment of complications in liver transplant recipients reported the highest incidence of short – term outcome. Early determination of complications and prompt establishment of appropriate interventions are essential for optimal outcome of the recipient and graft. |
