Background. Women with epilepsy are particularly susceptible to anxiety, depression and to the development of intellectual disability. It is necessary to know if there is a certain connection between the variations of mental disorders and epilepsy in dynamic aspect, depending on the type of epileptic seizure. Objective of the study. To identify the correlation of anxiety, depression, acute stress reactions and intellectual disability with the type of epileptic seizure in women with epilepsy. Material and Methods. This was a prognostic cohort study. 128 women with epilepsy were examined according to the criteria of the revised International League Against Epilepsy, aged 15–49 years, 46.9% (60 women) in cities, 53.1% (68 women) from villages, with outpatient evidence.Individually, patients completed The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Disability Rating Scale separately. Results. In the examined group were determined:32 women with depression(25.2%),80 women (88.2%) with anxiety, 49(30.9%) with different types of acute reactions to stress and 22 women(17%) with intellectual disabilities. In 83% of cases, focal seizures were associated with some or other mental disorders, 43% of generalized seizures showed the presence of mental disorders,27% did not present such disorders. As a result of comparing the presence of mental disorders at the beginning of the T °study and at the end of T¹, there was a dynamic increase in anxiety in up to 115 women(90%).No significant changes were observed in the rest of the spectrum of mental disorders. Conclusion. Women with epilepsy have a high risk of having mental disorders. It is imperative to establish the correct comorbid diagnoses, followed by appropriate treatment, taking into account that antiepileptic medication has a polyvalent psychotropic action. |
