Researchers have found that one of the reasons for the increase in tick-borne diseases is a significant increase in the density of tick populations, which is observed with changes in land use. To assess the impact of human agricultural activity on the density of ticks Dermacentor reticulatus and Ixodes ricinus, three study sites (pastures, meadows and wastelands) were selected, near the cities of Khmelnytsky, Kamenets-Podolsky and Starokonstantinov. Two burned areas after fires were also investigated. There was a clear dependence of the number of ticks on the site of collection. The average density of adult individuals of D. reticulatus ticks was lowest in pastures and seven times higher in wastelands. A similar situation was observed with I. ricinus ticks. For two seasons, the highest density of both species was recorded in abandoned areas in the spring. It was found that in the burned areas compared to intact areas, the density of ticks was eight times lower. |
