Brick in Saltovo-Mayak antiquities occupies a special position due to its correlation with the supreme power and Byzantine presence or influence. The latest research in the forest-steppe area of the Saltov-Mayatsk cultural community shows that brick production has no obvious relation to Byzantine architecture. The population of Saltovo-Mayak did not possess high skill in making bricks, but had to use building ceramics due to the insufficient quantity or quality of natural stone. |
