The authors studied the effects of Lisinopril (Diroton) administration in a daily dose of 20 mg on blood glucose, serum creatinine, and blood cholesterol in hypertensive patients. In 30 patients from 43 to 77 years old, fasting blood glucose, serum creatinine, total cholesterol, and blood pressure were measured before and after a 24-week course of Diroton administered 20 mg/day. The study found a significant reduction in serum creatinine, total cholesterol, systolic, and diastolic blood pressure but no substantial changes in fasting blood glucose. In addition to its antihypertensive effect, Diroton positively influenced [“influenced” could be good or bad – I’d say “improved” IF that is the authors’ meaning.] renal function and total blood cholesterol levels, minimally affecting glycaemia. Diroton can be safely and successfully administered to hypertensive patients with moderately elevated blood cholesterol and initial signs of renal function damage. |
