The article presents different approaches to competences as final outcomes (educational outcomes). There is a brief analysis of the definitions of competence, proposed by autochthonous authors and others authors over the world. The correlation between the competences and the finalities of the training is discussed. Forming skills specific to the field of science requires an evolving systemic approach, with the aim of developing previously acquired acquisitions. The level of the obtained results, which determines the quality of the finalities, depends on the professionalism of the teaching staff, the methodology applied for the successful realization of the educational process.
