Over the last decade, the approach towards disability in the Republic of Moldova has undergone radical changes, from the medical model that is based on individual deficiencies to the social model with an emphasis on interaction between individuals and environmental factors, oriented towards inclusion. The ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Law No. 166 of 09.07.2010) by the Republic of Moldova served as a catalyst for change. An important factor for successful and comprehensive social inclusion of people with disabilities is employment. Through this research we aimed to analyze employment and job inclusion of people with disabilities. Document analysis and the structured interviews with open-ended questions were used as research methods. Social policies and legislative frameworks that regulate aspects of employment of people with disabilities were analyzed for the purpose of this research. Both people with disabilities and employers were interviewed in order to create an overview of the practical impediments to obtaining a job. As a result, several recommendations have been developed to improve the current situation regarding employment and workplace inclusion of people with disabilities. |
