Rezumat

The positive changes in cultural and artistic life of modern Ukraine depend, first and foremost, on the initiatives of creative personalities, who make a significant contribution to the development of artistic practices and stimulate other people to discover their potential in different formats. A striking instance of the artists, who give a good example for the entire artistic environment by their life position and motivate and inspire different generations, is a married couple of Ostap and Roksolana Patyk. In August 2018, on their private initiative, under the patronage of Western Regional Scientific and Cultural Centre of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, the activity of Volodymyr Patyk International Plein Airs was established, which took place already thrice in the Creative Workshop in the village of Melnyky, Shatsk district, Volyn region, Ukraine. From the beginning, the organizers have planned to hold the plein airs as a continuous project that will take place in a free creative atmosphere amid the picturesque landscapes of summer Volyn nature, will unite notable masters and representatives of the young generation, will inspire experiment, dialogue and new artistic searches. Actually, in the basis of the concept of every plein air is a certain theme, which the participants should overthink once again and offer an original interpretation in their genre and individual manner. And positive energy of the place and harmony with the nature should promote the revelation of rather unexpected borders of the artists’ creativity and stimulate to intensive searches of new forms of image expression. Holding such an event is at the same time the best way to honour the memory of famous Lviv painter Volodymyr Patyk, whose creative credo was ‘to love the world, honour tradition and carry positive emotions to people through the art.’ The first plein air called Volyn Motives took place in the second half of August 2018 and lasted for about two weeks. In May 2019, the second artistic plein air was hold that had a special concept – Flowers and Birds, which are, first of all, spring symbols. The specificity of this plein air was its experimental character, because, besides the specified theme, the organizers clearly determined the technique of realization – batik. The third plein air that took place in August 2019 united a large number of participants and had again a clearly determined concept – ‘NUDE’. Summarizing the results of all three plein airs, an extremely large number of high quality artistic works (about 100) of various themes, genres, techniques and manners were created. These are painting, graphic art, glass art, textile, sculpture and installation, for which high professionalism and special mood are peculiar. In general, about half a hundred persons – artists, art historians and guests took part in Volodymyr Patyk International Plein Airs during 2018-2019. It is important that each year the organizers attract more and more artists, representatives of various artistic environments and schools and provide no age or genre limitations. Among the main priorities and vectors of further development of the plein air are genre variety and openness to current trends of contemporary art; active involvement of young generation artists that will facilitate dialogue between the generations and will give an opportunity for the youth to learn something from authoritative artists and at the same time to show a ‘fresh view’ for a theme specified; an accent on international cooperation providing the involvement of foreign participants, including Chinese artists that for the last years became one of the significant directions of the activities of Western Regional Scientific and Cultural Centre of the NAAU.
