The traditional practices among the Moldavian population of the left-bank Transnistria, related to the notions of death and preparation for a funeral, are examined. The general conclusion is drawn that the practice of popular beliefs about the death and preparation of the deceased for the funeral of the Moldavians on the left bank of the Dniester region has common Moldavian features with certain regional features formed by the preservation of the Moldavian traditional culture beyond the Dniester, due to the natural frontier – the Dniester River. At the same time, attention is drawn to intercultural relationships and their infl uence on the dynamics of maintaining funeral rituals, as the most archaic in the traditional everyday culture of the people.
