On the route that links the village of Gradeţ and Rabova, 20 km to West of Vidin, in a
former orthodox rupestral monastery from the XIIIth Century, every year in the day aft er Easter the Romanian Community of the North-Western Bulgaria gathers for the most important holiday. At this event it is practiced the Dance of Death in the memory of all young people who died the previous year. Th e same time people keep in memory another ritual – frăsinelul – which it is spread all-round in Oltenia. In present these customs are completed by the folklore festival of all Romanians in Bulgaria. In base of ethnographical researches made in 2009 by the author itself in
this paper are presented historic and ethnographic details about the community of Romanians in this region, and about Albotina – a place with a spiritual signifi cance for Romanians in Timoc, Bulgaria. |
