A detailed analysis of the geological and geophysical information in southern Moldova, has
allowed the development of a new geophysical model for Cahul and Taraclia profile that reflect
the local conditions through: density, elastic wave propagation velocity and quality factor.
Geological Setting reference levels are based on 73 boreholes data with 200-5000m depth.
In the boreholes,
formations
are
highlighted
Cenozoic,
Mesozoic,
Paleozoic
(Permian, Devonian and Carboniferous) sedimentary formations as well as the Precambrian
crystalline structures (upper Proterozoic), considered as the foundation of the Moldovan platform.
A tendency to thickening from West to East is observed for Mesozoic and Paleozoic horizons. The
high-gradient sedimentation of the Jurassic, and Cenozoic had a contrary behavior by narrowing
in the same direction. Here, the profile is identified as belonging tectonic plate segment of
Scythian platform and the deep structure model, applicable for the entire profile up to 350km
depth, has been completed.
