The article deals with some aspects of the noble land ownership in Bessarabia in the XIXth – early XXth centuries. Some issues concerning land ownership of Bessarabian elite are studied in detail. But at the same time there is a certain shortage in the study of particular noble estates and economic activities of their owners. The problem of debt burdens of many noble estates in Bessarabia has not been studied at all. So the author has tried to address problems mentioned above, to describe how to develop noble ownership as long as Bessarabia was a part of Russian Empire. This article draws attention to these questions but the problem itself is far from complete solution. However, the enormous volume of archival materials in Russian State Historical Archive allows to understand much better different aspects of noble land ownership in Bessararbia.
