Rezumat

In the context of the contemporary prerogatives, one of the priorities of the Security and Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova consists in creating a platform for communication on the security issues aimed at promoting transparency and security culture in the society taking into consideration the peculiarities of its activity and in the limits of its competences. The National Institute of Intelligence and Security “Bogdan, the Founder of Moldova” has launched an initiative of creating a platform for communication, discussions and debates in the framework of the civil society, academia and the Security and Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova on the topics related to the security and national interests. In light of COVID-19 fake news represents a provocation for the information security. The citizens are not immune to disinformation, being vulnerable to social anxieties while exposure to fake news creates a state of panic. It is worth mentioning that, at present, public space, in pursuit of more views, is flooded with fake news. Irrespectively of whether news is deliberately invented or might be true, but not exact, it has a direct impact provoked by the unconfirmed data both at the national and at the individual level. The round table “Combating Fake News in the Context of the Security Challenge – COVID 19”is the first event in the suggested format. Combating fake news as well as means of its promotion is a prerogative both of the governmental institutions in the field, in particular, the Security and Intelligence Service, one of the main attributions of which is to ensure information security of the sate, and a part of the civil society and academia, which via their research and practice in the area, promote anti-fake studies and policies.
