Rezumat

The proposed text discusses the use of a re-used inscription, which mentions the name of the Herculea settlement, for the needs of the archaeological excavations near the village of Rupite, Municipality of Petrich. The inscription was re-used in a necropolis from the 4th to 6th centuries, marking the restoration of the rights of Heraclea as a city. The detailed analysis of the ancient sources shows that the author of the hypothesis G. Mitrev has no reason to say that the inscription refers to the town of the village Rupite and identifies it with HeracleaSintica. Science has a single safe source - Tabula Poitingeriana, because it contains map’s data. The rest of the sources are texts by authors familiar to varying degrees with the geography of the region, each of which allows different localizations of Heraclea Sintica to bemade. The author here follows three main moments: The first concerns the localization of the city according to TP. The second concerns the localization of the Doberos and Eidomene / Idomene villages in connection with Sitalk's campaign against the Macedo-nians and their localization. The third refers to the possibility that the inscription has transfer from the site of Heraclea Sintica in the area of Sidirokastron/Neon Petristi to the place where it was found near the village of Rupite.
