Biological oscillators are found in all living organisms. The independent oscillators of different cells are often synchronized by influence of external and internal factors. The measurements made on the organisms of different evolutionary levels show that the oscillatory activity of all beings studied has frequency ranges similar to those found in the EEG of humans and other vertebrate animals – from 0.5 to 45 Hz. The experiments with simultaneous registration of electric activity from two loci of a biofilm of cyanobacteria Oscillatoria terebriformis and yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiaehave show that synchronization of oscillations develops not only within one locus, but also involves distant parts. Similar results received for fruits of plants (carrot, apple, and cucumber) and fruit bodies of Myxomycetes, Mycetozoa, makes possible the assumption of availability of similar mechanisms of synchronization of osсillatory activity in the beings we stidied (prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, snails Helix lucorum and bloodsuckers Hirudo medicinalis) and fruits of plants, i.e. the electric oscillatory phenomena are produced by activity of ensemble of the elements generating rhythmic activity. These oscillators usually work independently. However under certain conditions these generators operate synchronously. One of possible mechanisms of synchronization is biological resonance which can be defined as the ability of a system to facilitate electric transfer within a certain frequency range. In line with this, different cellular populations activated during information processing, either in parallel or serially, show resonant behavior in the frequency range, depending on the internal properties of the oscillators. It is possible to assume that the mechanism of synchronization of oscillators within one locus is gradual involvement of the nearby elements, and in the synchronization of oscillators of the remotely located associations of the generating cells the leading role is played by a biological resonance.
