By the reaction between salicylaldehyde, aqueous ammonia solution, and formaldehyde, the new tetradentate ligand N,N′ disalicylidenemethylenediamine - H2L (I) has been synthesized and it has been characterized by X-ray crystallography. Crystal H2L is tetragonal with space group P41212 o=i=9,342(2); c=14,875(3) Å, R=0.049. Molecule I has a non-planar structure with the angles between the planes of the salicylaldimine moieties equal to 118°. This structure is stabilized by the intramolecular H-bond in which the phenol oxygen atom and N atom of azomethine group are involved (O-H = 0.846 Å, O .. N= 1.802 Å, <NHO = 150.2°). The complex formation between H 2L and anhydrous nickel benzoate was studied by means of NMR spectroscopy. For the obtained complex the contact and dipolar shifts were separeted and the mixed σ-π mechanism of spin delocalisation is suggested. |
