Introduction. Over the years, doctors and surgeons have struggled with the diagnosis and treatment of inflammation of the deep throat. Diagnosing and treating these inflammatory processes is difficult due to the complexity and deep location of the cervical regions. Material and Methods. The anamnestic, clinical and paraclinical data were taken from the medical record of 35 patients from the Republican Clinical Hospital. Patients were investigated by electrocardiography, cervical radiography, contrast-enhanced cervical computed tomography, and general and biochemical analysis of blood, microbiological analysis. Literature on similar cases was studied. Results Most patients with cervical phlegmon were contaminated with a single pathogen - 74.4% (26) cases, this being St. Aureus; P. aeruginosa was isolated in 11.4% (4) cases, one of which in mixed-culture with E. faecum. The facultative gram-negative anaerobic E. coli was identified in 14.2% (5) cases. The main curative component of the treatment of diffuse suppurations is represented by the surgical treatment, which was performed in all patients, being performed by cervicotomy with abscess tonsillectomy, including postoperative treatment. Conclusions. Because the cervical phlegm is a secondary infection, surgery on them was also aimed at removing the primary focus, the most common cause being periamygdalian abscess. Uncomplicated postoperative evolution in 100% of cases, with complete recovery. |
