In the article, we examine the problem of extramarital fertility in the context of
European demographic trends, its dynamics during the years 1980–2009 including
by age groups of mother. Based on the primary statistical data on birth rates in 2009
year, we analyzed extramarital fertility by residence area, maternal age, practices of
child registration; a comparative analysis between marital and extramarital fertili-
ty and distribution of children by rank of birth is produced. The author offers some
recommendations about the improvement of the welfare of children born outside the
marriage.
