Rezumat

The aim of the present paper is to introduce the pioneers of the theory of fiction of the turn of the twentieth-century England and to discuss their similarities and their common outlook on the theory of novel. Henry James, Joseph Conrad and Edward Morgan Forster greatly contributed to the development of the novel of the turn of the twentieth century with their new empirical approaches to fiction writing. All of them perceived literature as a piece of art, believed in the empirical approach to novel writing and in the freedom of expression.
