In various documents, British diplomats recorded the circumstances of Russia in 1917-1918. In this context – as in the presentation of situation in Romania – they also presented the developments in Bessarabia, including the activity of ‘Sfatul Ţării’: „In January 1918 the SFATUL TSAREI declared Bessarabia an Independent Moldavian Republic; but the country was too small to defend itself and in March 1918 it voted an act for union with Roumania and invited the Romanian troops to occupy and defend the country”. In a report, the Chief of the British Military Mission in Bucharest showed that “The whole of Bessarabia is considered as part of Roumanian kingdom as having voluntarily entered it by the general wish of its people”. |
