Teza

Fantasy and Magic were the first big concepts that were used while creating literary works of art in the past, this tradition comes from thousands of years ago and continues now. Fiction literature occupies a conspicuous place throughout literature. Some say it is a specific trait, others that it’s a genre of its own, leaving room for many literary traditions and theories.  In the translation of an English text occurs a particular problem, the one of the transmitting the main meaning when translating specifically fantasy, especially author’s neologisms and anthroponyms. Translating the fantastic genre often requires a mindset of the author and the knowledge of your own culture and mythology and the analogies that you can make between the compared cultures. Or the ability to even make up new words that will make sense and deliver the message that was spoken by the author. In translation, the ability to implement theory to practice is crucial. Theory studies the practical matters, whereas practice stands for involving the theoretical parts and achievements. Translation is a complex process and one of its requirements is to transmit the thoughts of the author and make them relevant for an another language and culture. And also we cannot ignore the stylistic factors that are implied. To translate means to retell something that was said in a certain language fully and accurately with the means of an another language. My goal was: to see what role the fantastic genre has in the world literature, its origins and peculiarities in the translation of fantasy, see what role had Tolkien in the affirmation of the fantasy genre in literature, what are author’s neologisms and how they should be translated. Translation of anthroponyms is a particular category which is said that they translate by themselves, but the result of this kind of translation often leads to mistakes, misreading and furthermore – misunderstanding of the message.
