The system of education is the main institution for socialization and integration of a person into society, as well as for orientation in the modern world and self-realization. One of the important demand of the Moldovan society remains the education of Roma children and youth. Lack of a necessary level of pre-school training, experience in information perception and communication experience essential for education – is still a serious problem. The consequences of this situation are: semi-marginalized existence, low level of education, and socio-economic unsettled state. One of the most efficient instruments of social identity construction is the educational policy. Enhancing the quality and level of professional training of teachers, working with Roma children, and their upgrade is one of the most important tasks of modern education. The process of involvement into their own culture by means of education is a significant aspect of Roma education. That is, ethnocultural education is a kind of “bridge” between Roma community, Roma culture and education. However, nowadays the adaption of educational models and programs for Roma children and the educational materials remain undeveloped. There are some models of ethnic minority education, developed by professionals in multicultural education: 1. multiethnic classes and schools, in which Roma study together with children of another ethnic origin; 2. Roma monoethnic classes in multiethnic schools in the countryside near their compact settlements; 3. monoethnic schools inside the compact Roma settlements or nearby. It is essential to have ethnocultural compound in the educational standards. Such disciplines and manuals as “Roma ABC book”, “Roma language”, “History and culture of Roma”, “Roma important personalities and their contribution to the social development” may undoubtedly become an “ethnocultural educational bridge” for a better integration of Roma children and youth in the social life of the Moldovan society. |
