Methodology defines the analysis method of matter and consciousness; it separates a scientific method of study from an unscientific one. Positivism, the empirical materialism, is the methodology in palaeontology based on facts, single empirical objects, which do not require pre-schematization and abstraction. The fossils, geological bodies that contain them and the processes that have formed them are the scope of research in palaeontology. The quintessence of research in palaeontology is the systematics of fossils. The correctness
of the species definitions should be provided by reducing the subjectivity.Palaeontological data have become the factual basis of evolution, both in geology and biology. Therefore, attempts are made to assign palaeontology to the historical sciences. Methodological analysis of the subject of research in palaeontology, facts that palaeontology investigates, methods of research, time that palaeontology operates with, do not allow to include palaeontology into the historical sciences.Time in palaeontology performs the following functions : visualization of the relative (procedural) time as a set of materialized (embodied) segments of the universal time (in palaeontology, ontogeny determines their extreme points); indication the simultaneousness, sequence. |
