Rezumat

A treaty on the withdrawal of Romanian forces from Bessarabia within two months through the mediation of representatives of the Western powers was signed between the Soviet and Romanian governments during the talks between 5-9 March 1918. However, both the Entente and Germany allowed Romania to violate the agreement and to possess Bessarabia as a payment for the „fight against Bolshevism”. Without the support of the Western powers, who sought to suppress world communism, Romania would never have moved to the implementation the of „unification of all Romanian lands”. The facts clearly show that any recognition of the Soviet annexation of Bessarabia by the Government is out of the question. But all the attempts of the modern Romanian historiography to prove otherwise are only speculations in order to bring the „historical basis” for the thesis „Bessarabia is Romanian land!”. The trend toward a realistic coverage and analysis of the Bessarabian question in effectis very relative in literature rumynist but the desire to repel the events of “patriotic” positions dominates.
