Rezumat

The scientific interest of the psychological impact on the decision regarding assisted reproduction is growing, two researchers identifying over 60 publications that have addressed the psychological consequences of IVF in the last three decades (Malina, A., Pooley, JA, 2017). Research on mothers of children born through the use of IVF, reports fewer cases of parental stress, more frequent association with the image of a good parent, higher parental competence than in the case of natural reproduction, marital satisfaction maintained and even strengthened after childbirth. The present study presents an experimental research. The objective of the research was to evaluate the relationship between representations of ideal motherhood, self-image as a mother and the decision about IVF. The experimental framework included women-patients of a university clinic in Haifa, Israel. Mothers who chose IVF completed a questionnaire which identified the cognitive, affective and behavioral components of the representation of the ideal parent, compared to self-image as a mother.
