In Vitro study of bacteriostatic effect of calcium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide-copper,
and 3% sodium hypochlorite used in modern endodontic treatment
In a comparative in vitro study was determined the bacteriostatic effect of three antimicrobial solutions used in endodontic treatment: calcium hydroxide, calcium copper hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite 3%. Mueller Hinton agar nutrient medium was used in Petri dishes previously seeded with swab inseminated with microorganisms. The microorganisms that were tested are: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus and Candida albicans. It was determined that the highest bacteriostatic effect possessed 3% sodium hypochlorite, stopping the bacteria growth in 100%. The effect of calcium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide-copper was at the same level, stopping the growth of bacteria in 75%.
