Rezumat

The present paper is meant as a study of the phenomenon called ”Russian Hoffmannism". Some great Russian writers, but also some less known (not less significant) attempted to synthesize the formula of the German writer and can be seen as "hoffmannians"; among them, A.S. Pushkin, N.V. Gogol, F. M. Dostoevsky, and A. A. Perovsky (pseudonym Antoni Pogorelski) V.F. Odoevski, M.N. Zagoskin, O.M. Somov, E. P. Grebenko. In the European literature, the rules clearly separated the fantasy tale from the "horror" genre, but Hoffmann dares to combine the two genres in his stories. We note, however, that Russian hoffmannists, though they avidly took his great Romantic motifs and subjects, though they imitated him or created in his manner, constantly ignored his brilliant humor. This ”seriousness” will only be abandoned in the twentieth century, by another literary genius: Mikhail Bulgakov.
