Rezumat | |||||||
About 33,000 people die annually in the EU and 700,000 globally as a result of infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms. By 2050, infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms could cause more deaths than cancer; organ transplants, chemotherapy, intensive care and other medical procedures would no longer be possible. Estimated annual costs for health care services will increase due to the increase in disease incidence and, by 2050, could exceed the baseline level by: about 25% in low-income countries, 15% in middle-income countries, and 6% in high income countries. The current situation requires the adoption of urgent measures to combat and reduce antimicrobial resistance through the One Health concept – the single consolidated approach accepted at the international level, is the only viable solution that promotes good practices to reduce the need for antimicrobials. |
