In the process of uncovering and investigating criminal offenses, a number of problematic issues arise that require the use of modern technologies. Profiling is one of such technologies that can help specialists of the state border service in their professional activities. Profiling is understood as technology in which a certain set of characteristics (profiles) is used to find and detain a person who has committed a crime (criminal profiling) or to identify persons who are likely to be involved in criminal activity (behavioral profiling). Both areas of profiling – criminal and behavioral – are relevant for the professional activities of border guards as additional methods of detection, investigation and prevention of crimes.
