Rezumat

On December 24, 2022, two years have passed since the inauguration of the current President of the Republic of Moldova. In the middle of her term, we proposed to present in the following a brief retrospective of the path traveled by Maia Sandu from taking power to the attempt to destabilize the Republic of Moldova that she faced, in the second part of 2022. The year 2022, being also the second of Maia Sandu’s mandate, was a historic one for the Republic of Moldova. The presence in power of President Maia Sandu and her party (PAS), with an assumed pro-European program and orientation, created a different internal political context and radically changed the relations of the Republic of Moldova with the Euro-Atlantic bodies. This situation, as well as the geo-strategic interests of the USA and the EU, which became a priority in the Black Sea region, after the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine (February 24, 2022), made the Republic of Moldova to obtain, in an unexpectedly short time, the status of the candidate country for EU accession. Two years after taking office, Maia Sandu faced virulent protests, instigated and paid for by the fugitive oligarch Ilan Șor, supported by communists and socialists, and with the support of the Russian secret services, which attempted to remove power from Chisinau and restore the Republic Moldova in Moscow›s sphere of influence. The removal of the danger of destabilizing the internal political situation and the external support received to deal with the crises facing the Republic of Moldova are undeniable proofs of the skill, determination and intelligence that Maia Sandu possesses, as well as the empathy and prestige that she enjoys internationally
