In this article, we aimed to elucidate several general aspects with reference to the appearance of the first stairs, their type, the raw materials of manufacture, the constructive aspects, as well as the deep symbolism they possess. Studying accessible material about stairs from different cultures, we identified the staircase as one of the oldest human constructions and framed the stairs of different forms in the interior design of social, administrative, educational buildings and residential houses.
