Rezumat

Aim and Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate psychopathological manifestations in patients with predominantly aesthetic or functional post-combustion scarring after surgery. Methods: 44 patients who have been admitted for reconstruction surgery in the Plastic Surgery and Burns Department have been included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups: group I with predominantly aesthetic scars, group II with functional ones. The following scales were used as instruments for measuring scarring, quality of life, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem: USAS, BSHS-R, HAM-D, HAM-A, Rosenberg Scale. Results: Only in case of age, SUAC score and social status were recorded statistically significant differences, patients with aesthetic sequelae being younger and with a lower USAS score. For the scores BSHS-R, HAM-D, HAM-A, the Rosenberg Scale there were no statistically significant differences. In both groups, regardless of the location and characteristics of scars, the scores for depression, anxiety and low self-esteem were moderate. Discussion: Symptomatic depression and anxiety persist in patients with scarring even at a distance after trauma, which indicates that this contingency requires both physical and psycho-emotional support.
