Rezumat

The Katathym Imaginative Psychotherapie (KIP) is a psychodynamic therapy method developed by the German psychoanalyst and psychotherapist Hanscarl Leuner in the 1950s. In the English-speaking world, the method was introduced under the term Guided Affective Imagery (GAI), in other countries the method is also known as Symbol Drama. The method uses therapeutically initiated daydreams (imaginations). Their contents are closely linked to the patient’s sensual, physical, and affective experience and are scenic and symbolic. During the daydream, there is a verbal exchange with the therapist, which allows different possibilities of intervention. The imaginations enable an emotional and creative access to unconscious processes, desires, and behavioral patterns, to the patient’s own person and to their relationships to other people and therefore provide an emotional and mental space for inner psychic development. The presentation covers the basic elements of the psychotherapeutic method and a video demonstration of a daydream with a patient.
