The collapse of the Soviet Union and the processes of globalization have led to large-scale socio-cultural transformations in the post-Soviet space. In this regard, we face the problem of the population identity of new sovereign States. The article aims to analyze the problems of selfidentification of inhabitants of modern Russia on the example of the one of its regions. The article is prepared on the materials of sociological polls using published sources on the research topic.
