In the course of history, suicidal acts have shocked either with the brutality they have been committed or with the causes, mostly absurd, that determined them. The attempts to explain the decision to resort to such a gesture – to take your own life as a supreme form of aggression – have been the concern of specialists from different areas of expertise. Suicide in the world registers nearly one million people. About 10-20 million have suicidal attempts once a year. The real number of people committing suicide is probably much higher, because some of the deaths have been considered and recorded as accidents, either car accidents, or overdoses and they are not registered to be suicide acts. In the world, suicide is the eight cause for decease to man and the sixteen to women. It is the third cause for decease to people between 10-24 years. Suicide facts represent 22.7 per cent from the total violent deaths, about five times more than homicide cases. National average of suicidal was, in 2007, 11.93 cases for one hundred thousand inhabitants. “On a psychological and psychopathological point of view, suicide represents a specific autodistruction, a antisocial behaviour which involves the individual factor, instinctive, but also the specific psychopathological causes: delirium, hallucination, hypochondrical ideas, an obsesiv-fobic state, melancholy” (Prof. univ. dr. Tudorel Butoi). |
