This article is centred on the issue of nationalism in the period between the two World Wars in Romania; the efforts of “the young generation” are to be enlightened, but especially
Cioran and Ionescu’s reaction to political and social transformations. The ideology of the generation was to follow Nae Ionescu in his nationalism and to get Romania out of its cultural isolation. Some representatives of the generation kept only their quality of witnesses not directly involved
in the events, such as Ionescu, others took advantage of the political events and fulfil their destinies, even if by choosing to exile themselves; the most lost their ways in the communist Romania or they died in its communist prisons. The article also insists on the manner whether Ionescu and Cioran accepted or not the social, cultural and political reality of their time. I was interested in their unity or on the contrary divergences found and considered especially by means of the
articles produced by both of them in the Romanian period, before their exile, by means of their essays or memories published later on. Some aspects of their ideological identity are analysed here. Why do they belong to the same young generation, and especially what are the elements recurrent and identified? In what they produced concerning the Romanian nationalism in the period mentioned above? |
