Background. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a chronic degenerative pathology of the macula. Improvement in visual acuity (VA) and structural changes associated with anti-VEGF treatment may be different from patient to patient, so the factors influencing the therapeutic process need to be elucidated. Objective of the study. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of different types of treatment methods of neovascular AMD. Material and Methods. Systematic literature review identifying RCTs published the last 10 years on profile journals. Results. Studies have found a lot of factors involved in the evolution of DMLV, including age, sex, genetic, environmental and clinical factors. Each of them influences in an individualized way the therapeutic process having a significant correlation between the initial AV, the age and the dimensions of CNV with the treatment results. Conclusion. Determining the factors involved in the variability of the response to treatment could help to develop an algorithm for stratifying patients to achieve a good therapeutic effect |
