The formation of the image of every nation is partly formed on the basis of stereotyped meanings. Ukraine is not an exception. Taking into consideration the events of modern life, for the sake of adequate mental self-identification of new generations, it is important to outline the stereotypical image of Ukrainians. It is necessary to explore one's own and other people's stereotypical ideas about our nation and direct this experience to the formation of a positive image. That’s why the research of the role of mentality and the conceptual spheres is becoming increasingly popular in the scientific circles. The Ukrainians need to break free from externally inspired stereotypical worldviews, which lead to the victimization and new traumata. Such changes are possible only under the conditions of "refreshing" mental identity from passive-negative to constructive-positive. Despite the popularity of research in this area, the problem of studying the identity, in general, and mental identity in particular, has not yet been solved, because each of the identities is in a stabile process of formation. The scientists continue to search for an answer to the question of what is a conceptual picture of the world of Ukrainians, what stereotypical ideas about their mentality circulate among foreigners and what is actually the linguistic and cultural dominant of their mental identity. Usually, every nation wants its conceptual presentation to be based on positive romanticized images associated with historical triumph, victory, and worldwide recognition. To turn the experiences associated with historical memory into a powerful striving for further creative linguistic and cultural development, it is important to have a prevailing positive impulse, which should be directed to creative work on enrichment and development of Ukrainian linguistic culture and its most positive reflection in one's own mental identity. The success of this process depends primarily on whether it will become a systemic state policy of Ukraine, or will remain only the effort of some concerned volunteers from science and culture. Thus, today Ukraine is at an important historical period in the restoration of national consciousness, when the will to freedom has finally become the dominant of mental identity. Whether this dominant will be preserved for our descendants today depends on the conscious efforts of each of us.
