This paper is based upon some of the existential questions, which we consider important to develop in the subject we have chosen. These questions are: `What is life`? `What is man`? What is death? And last, but not least, `who has the right to decide over our lives`? We managed to present the main abolitionist ideas and express our own opinions regarding punishments, focusing on the death penalty and its abolishment. We have concluded our paper by stating that if we cannot find a way out of the maze, we cannot have any understanding of the human behaviour or of the illegal acts performed by the individual.
