The process of borrowing words and their adaptation to language systems are elements that enrich greatly national language fund and contribute immensely to enrichment and nuancing of the vocabulary. Throughout the history Romanian language suffered various influences (Slavonic, Turkish, Russian, French, English) which manifested differently, some of them were accepted either with enthusiasm or with reluctance. Massive penetration of English loan words in Romanian language is a topical phenomenon of the last century. The number of these words increases in a very rapid way. According to our opinion there is no reason to consider the phenomenon as a threat to our language if we take into account certain factors. However, the main function of a language is efficient communication, but we can’t communicate effectively having a poor vocabulary.
