Rezumat

Decahydro-closo-decaborate anion [B10H10]2- is one of the most interesting objects in boron hydride chemistry. It was found recently that [B10H10]2- in methanol-d4 undergoes regiospecific proton-deuterium exchange at the cap positions of the bicapped square antiprism with formation of [1,10-B10H8D2]2- [1]. In this contribution proton-deuterium exchange in a series of derivatives of the decahydro-closo-decaborate anion [B10H10]2- bearing both electron-donating and electron-withdrawal substituents in methanol-d4 was studied using the method of 11B NMR spectroscopy. Substitution of deuterium for proton results in transformation of doublets from BH groups in 11B NMR spectra to singlets corresponding to BD groups. Based on the 11B NMR data positions and sequence of the proton-deuterium exchange for various derivatives of the decahydro-closo-decaborate anion were determined.figure
